Cut only hair with your scissors and try to wash dirty hair before cutting. Clean, wet hair causes the least stress on your scissors.
When not in use, ensure that the scissors remain closed so that you do not risk chipping the edges.
If you feel that your scissors do not cut all the way to the tips, the blades grind together, pull or push the hair; you will need to have your scissors serviced.
If you want to optimise the performance of your scissors you must regularly clean, oil and adjust your scissors.
Do not let hairdressing scissors come into contact with any comb sterilization, colour or perm solution.
Do not leave your scissors on your work area.
Forcing the scissors through a haircut could severely damage the edges; ensure that the scissors you are using are not too light for the task in hand and that you are not struggling through large sections of hair.
Despite what you may have been told; premium two piece hairdressing scissors cannot be properly sharpened inside a salon or inside a van because:
• A wet area is required for Japanese stone work.
• A vast amount or equipment is required to expertly service a pair of scissors.
• The time involved; it can take up to 45 minutes to re-profile a pair of expensive convex scissors.
Dropping scissors is very likely to cause damage. We can usually take out any nicks during the sharpening process. However if the blades become bent, this may render the scissors irreparable.
We can re-shape some high quality scissors due to the temper of the steel, which is soft and more pliable. However there are some hairdressing scissors that are made from hard brittle steel, which will snap if re-shaped.
We would strongly recommend that you store your scissors in a good quality leather case or hip sheath.
Always make sure your scissors are clean and completely dry before storing them.
